Have you ever heard something like this..... "Lets share Jesus with isolated people in Africa. Yes! Lets give them Bibles!" ...and wondered how these isolated communities would understand the text?
Today I would like to talk about a solution to this problem, not that I have been able to hold one of these books in my hand yet, but instead a solution which *you* can help make possible.
This proposed book is the Africa Study Bible and the Oasis International organization needs your help to develop and send these Bibles to Africa.
The emphasis of the project is that Bibles are meant to be understood, therefore we need to create commentaries that will aid that process.
What is needed and makes sense in one culture may be entirely useless in another. For example, I was reading about the Matthew 18 story, of the man who owed 10 tablets. In the USA study bible, this number is translated to 6 billion dollars, however this figure means nothing to people in remote areas in Africa.
To respond to this, the Bibles they are sending are include African culture and religious norms and discuss how the Bible applies to these areas.
To those who support the campaign, there are a vairity of rewards at different tiers:
$5- Social Media Shoutout, Sample
$15- $5 rewards and 5x8 artwork
$25- $15 rewards and advanced app version
$40- above and hard cover edition
$100- $40 tier and and leather edition
$500- $40 tier and goatskin leather edition
$3500- $500 tier, a second piece of artwork, and an ALL EXPENSES PAID TRIP to the USA dedication of the Africa Study Bible in Chicago
$10,000- $500 tier, a second piece of artwork and a trip to Kenya
