Have you noticed that everyone’s schedule is packed so tight that there isn’t a moment to breathe and this has become the norm? Being too busy is more like the cool card right now. Yet even with all the chaos we face day-to-day there is a part of us that yearns to find ways to pray more, study our Bible more in-depth, and be a better servant. But how? We are all inundated with books, articles, and blog posts that teach us about God. But what about something that helps us find a way to incorporate life-changing habits in our super busy, jam-packed, modern lives?
The NIV Lifehacks Bible with notes by Joe Carter (an editor for The Gospel Coalition, author, and part of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention) combines the traditional, Biblically-rooted spiritual disciplines with contemporary lifehacking methods and techniques to provide 21st century Christians with a practical toolkit for developing a gospel-centered life.
From cooking to organizing, “Lifehacks” improve all aspects of your day, but did you know they can also enrich your spiritual life? The NIV Lifehacks Bible gives you practical and achievable techniques to build Godly habits and enhance your walk with God. With 365 articles covering 30 life-changing disciplines, not only does this Bible illuminate scriptural wisdom on spiritual practices, it provides practical tips and strategies for applying them every day.
Features in this Bible include:
- 4 Tips for Making Wise Decisions
- 6 Steps for Interpreting the Bible
- 7 Questions for Recognizing Intentional Sins
- 4 Tips for Finding Time to Pray
Featuring a foreword by author and theologian Kevin DeYoung, the NIV Lifehacks Bible is full of common-sense articles on foundational topics such as: prayer, self-reflection, character formation, and fasting. The Bible then features advice and helpful tips for building habits around these disciplines.

A lifehack is any tip, trick, or tool for doing something easier or more effectively. There are lifehacks for making muffins, for keeping your sink clean, and keeping your kids' hands clean as they eat popsicles. Pinterest has thousands and this book has many of its own to make faith things easier.
This Bible is pretty handy. Its safe to say that most of us dont have time to waste so our time in the Bible is usually sandwiched between other things in our day. This book helps us learn and dissect what we need to know so we can apply the lessons to these activities.
That said, I like the memes I was given to share with you (I plan to share them in a few weeks on a Wednesday) but the attitude of the marketing annoyed me a bit:
You see, a lot of times I think we turn people away when we use words like "sin" and "repenting". We say "oh its easy, just pray and read your Bible" and sometimes its *not* easy. Sometimes we get lost in all the big words and things we arent sure how they apply today.
The book itself is nice and tries to help us make the hard parts easier but.... its not a cure all.
Here is a meme I was given to share with you:
This book isnt going to water the gospel down so it goes down any easier or distort God's character so he fits our thoughts and ways.... And Praise God for it, too!
I wouldn't say its the best Bible I have seen for intense study (You would want a Study Bible) but it would be a good tool to share with a new believer who wants to get their feet wet and start applying the Bible to their life.
