Background Info: This Christian family is based out of Lexington, KY. There first concert ever was about a decade ago. Of there two albums, I asked to review their newest, I've Got Joy, which was released in 2011.
Before I get into my actual review, I want to spend a moment focusing on this group in contrast to others I've done. The fist thing to mention, is that instead of an all-male quartet, we are talking about 75% of the group being female. (Which is is rather helpful when it comes to singing along, ☺).
Then you have the fact that, as seen on the album cover, there are instruments used. I know that there are a few of you that shy away from this type of thing, but they do seem to add to the songs, in this case. There are also songs of just string instruments such as Amazing Grace that use the viola, mandolin, and/or violin. I thought that they sounded perfectly fine, but Diana (Mrs.Diggles) assured me that since the album was released "the girls’ instrument playing and singing has matured." Which is a good thing, of course!
If you glance at their website, you'll see that the family really focuses on scripture memory, and while I'm really bad at it, I love to listen to the girls recite the words of 1 Corinthians 13... you know the "Love is patient and kind, slow to anger....., as on their CD.
But the music itself, you get lively and simple and funny and calm all put together on the together really nicely in a way that I think we all can enjoy. I can, in fact, recommend them. If you are interested in buying this album you can contact them thru their website; the suggested donation is $15 unless otherwise noted.
Now for my very favorites songs, I'd have to pick
I've Got Joy
and Looking Out for You
It just so happens that unfortunately I wasnt able to fine either of them recorded are on their YouTube channel... but you can still sample all of the tracts here.
And before you all go, I want to share a song they sang in a performance a few years back... I'll Fly Away.... sung backwards! Turn up your speakers if you dont believe me!
