***I'm editing my asking for blog posts post, so you dont have to sign up for Remind. Be sure to check out more info on the update here.

I went out the other day, because my favorite pair of shoes were getting worn for a new pair and came home missing the way I had the others laced:

So I sat down and recreated the look as follows:

Its a modified (read: better) "Lattice".

Pros: You lose a lot of shoe lace length and wont have to re-tie your shoes, because you'll just sew down the ends.

Cons: You lose a lot of shoe lace length and wont be able to re-tie your shoes, because you'll just sew down the ends.

So above, the top end is the toe end of the shoe. Mine had 5 holes on each side. The diagram shows where the lace will travel from hole to hole... Like from the top left to third on the right to second on the left to fourth on the right.... etc. It might seem confusing now, but it does help make more sense later and you'll want to do this to both shoes.

Start by unlacing the first shoe and folding it (the lace) in half. You want to work with the folded end first, with both the folded side and the one with the ends even, and coming up from the first holes on both sides.

With the folded end, work through the above holes as shown. It will be a bit hard to get the double lace through, so get a pencil to help if you need to. Make sure that you can still fit your foot inside the shoe, but also that the end will come out the last hole on the right to stitch it there, on the inside of the shoe.

One you have that done, you can do the confusing step!
With the two pointed ends, weave them from the first hole through the laces to the fourth hole. One will go over under over under while the other goes under over under over. Do this for both the first hole to the fourth hole and from the second to the fifth, so that there is a overall weaved look like below, where I have the last lace to finish up (and send to the fifth hole on the left.
