Alright so I have always had thin, straight hair. Then in the fall, it started falling out like crazy, and I thought maybe it was just the changing seasons. But then I got weak, and really tired to the point that I was sleeping 15+ hours a day on average. I was pale even for me, pretty much I had all the symptoms of iron deficiency anemia.

I was actually very sick for about a month until I finally linked my hair loss to being sick and I later learned that his hair loss can continue for 3-4 months as the body heals. And we all know that even then, hair can take a while to sprout up again and grow in. Looking for a solution to help grow my hair back, I knew that essential oils were a great resource and I had been researching rosemary and a few others for hair loss.

I also say this to clarify that I had hair loss (thinning) not breakage. With breakage, your hair suddenly gets thin at a certain point but thinning is "thin" from the roots and there is "cleavage" or places where the scalp shows.

So... I was totally psyched to see a blend containing them already together. All I needed was to add them to a shampoo or carrier oil and I was set.

Now I typically wear a religious covering so I don't feel comfortable posting a ton of photos with my hair down online, however I can show you a few photos that can give you an idea of the results that I have found with some non-identifying pictures.

The first picture was taken before Christmas and the last picture was taken this week.

Its important to note a few things:
  • Hair looks thinner when it is wet (pictures 1-3) and really it looks a little different on a day to day basis.
  • That said, there is definitely a lot of hair "cleavage" in the first photos and it gets better as the photos go on.
  • At image 4, I colored my hair (lol my scalp is soooo orange in #5) and sometimes the camera picked up my hair as red after that- It just depends the lighting.
  • Image 13 is blown up larger below, I have a mini mohawk of hairs growing in.
  • In image 15, you can also see this with hairs growing in at my hair line
  • Also I have trich which means I pull out my hair. Its a mental thing that I have had since the 1st grade or before. Its hard to measure growth because.... I am always.... pulling it out :/

The instructions are to "Simply add 2 to 3 drops per ounce of shampoo" so I have been doing that, and using these two original ways:

1) Putting blended oils into a glass bottle with various carrier oils: castor, coconut, jojoba, grapeseed.

Grapeseed and jojoba are lighter oils that are often used when you are applying essental oils frequently because they can be soaked up easily and you wouldnt feel like a mess. However, coconut is my go to oil so I wanted a potion of that too. Finally, castor is best used in blends since it is so think and greasy. I dont mind this very much since I keep my hair up, but I figured since this oil helps hair growth, it would not hurt to throw it in to help my scalp. Also I have more of the castor and coconut oil so its easier to use them for a base.

I use a glass dropper to put this oil on my scalp and do it 3-ish days a week.

2) Putting drops of the blend into a castor oil-miconazole nitrate mix. Both of these are supposed to be good for the scalp, but I cant use only miconazole nitrate becaues it dries and leaves white crusty things in my hair. No good!!

You may notice that miconazole nitrate is a yeast/ fungal infection treatment, often seen under the brand name Monistat. If you have some of this stuff handy, you can see that it has a side effect of messing with your blood. My theory if when it does, this works because it increases circulation to the scalp and more blood and nutrients is good, like a massage. It can also cause headaches, ringing of the ears and such, so while I havent experienced these always be cautious before you order any medicine and do whatever works for you not to become tolerant... that could be messy :)

Update: I used this for maybe a week but didnt feel like making another batch.

In any of the three ways, its important to dilute the concentration or you can get hurt!!! Always do your research on essential oils before you use them.

^Here is a picture of my "mohawk." It makes me very happy.

The only thing that keeps this from being 5 star is that I dont feel like its making my hair grow faster. Since I colored my hair, I have about 9/16 inch of roots. I did my hair the weekend of Martin Luthur King day, which was Jan 18 and its been two days under 8 weeks since, where today is March 12. I get my hair grows slow, I am not really surprised I got .5 inches in 8 weeks, but I would have expected the hair formula to help with this.

But still, there are lots of other factors (diet, sleep, stress) that affect hair growth as well.

Again, I really do recommend this product to anyone who is struggling with hair loss. It will take a few months to be able to see progress, but there will be progress nonetheless!!
