The Guys Slimline Bible blue chevron edition is the perfect gift for all occasions and features the easy to understand New Living Translation text. The 53-page dictionary/concordance helps kids locate passages on various topics. Includes 8 pages of full-color maps, a blue ribbon marker, and a special presentation page.
The New Living Translation text is excellent for young readers because it is so clear and they can understand what they are reading! When they can read and understand God’s Word, God can work in their hearts!
This book is a combination of two things I really enjoy: The NLT translation and tiny Bibles. I love to carry a Bible with me and tiny ones are great to sneak in a bag.
This is a good Bible for child, teen, or adult to take to church as it is easy to carry and not too heavy or anything.
Honestly, this book is simply a basic Bible and I dont think it should just be marketed for guys.
When I was selecting a book to review, I also had the option of Tyndale sending me the girls on instead. It had a frilly pink heart on the cover and didnt seem like something I would carry around. Yet I was interested to see what made a guys Bible a guys Bible so I chose this blue one.
Besides the cover, there isnt much extra to it. The inside cover includes a verse about strength: I am going to share Psalm 62:5-8 even though 7 is the only one included. It is a very nice passage.
5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God,
for my hope is in him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will not be shaken.
7 My victory and honor come from God alone.
He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.
8 O my people, trust in him at all times.
Pour out your heart to him,
for God is our refuge.
I realize that girls tend to have insecurities about beauty and guys tend to have insecurities about their manliness but I am sure that a lot of my more feminist minded friends would throw a fit over the girls book having a message "You are pretty" and the guys book having a message "You are a courageous leader." I myself chose the "guys" message and am glad that I did.
As for the Bible itself, I think it deserves a 4.5. It has maps. It has red letters. Its a good Bible, if there can be bad ones.
I dont think interested readers should be limited to just for guys, and I dont think it should be just for children but it would be a good gift or purchase for those that do fall in these categories.
