Guess What? You can practice Spanish and read the Bible at the same time!

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a good week so far!

I tend to find a lot of comfort in productivity and even when I am doing something fun, there is often something constructive I intend to accomplish through the activity. So.... I have been meaning  to read the Bible more and to work on my Spanish skills more and I found a way to do both at the same time! Super cool!

The image below is sort of hard to see so let me explain. I will also link the image below

So what I found is that you can have more than one Bible translation open at the same time at bible.com and that they do not have to be in the same language. The button to do this is in the top left right underneath the webpage home button.

Above I have Ephesians 1 open (link) in the New Living Translation and the Spanish equivalent, Nueva Traducción Viviente.

PS. The NLT is my absolute favorite and I highly recommend! Its very easy to understand and just really encouraging.

So far reading the Bible in Spanish has been super fun and I have actually understood a surprising amount of the Spanish. Because we do not learn many religious words at school, it has also taught me a lot of new vocabulary.

Spiritually, I think reading the Bible in my second language is almost letting me see it anew. A few days ago I read two of my favorite passages Luke 15 and Psalm 91 and Psalm 91:15 really stood out to me... I was almost in tears, haha even though I have probably read this chapter 100 times before.

Salmos 91:15 NTV
Cuando me llamen, yo les responderé; estaré con ellos en medio de las dificultades. Los rescataré y los honraré.

In English, it reads: When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.

It was like I was a small child again learning to read and being extremely excited to finally understand a written thought.

Spanish has a billion tenses but the last sentence "I will rescue and honor them" is written in the "We are absolutely sure that this will happen in the future" tense. Isnt that encouraging? Its not "I could rescue them..."  or "I would rescue them" or "I might think about rescuing them if it is convenient" but "LOOK. I AM GOING TO RESCUE MY PEOPLE" and I mean this is God talking so you cant really argue with that.

I do not believe that you can use the parallel Bible feature through the mobile app, but if you have the chance to check out the bible.com website, maybe try reading a passage in your second language and seeing if you like it? You do not have to have an account (accounts are free) to use the website although I find having one is convenient because I use both the website and app.

You also don't have to use a Spanish translation, there are many other languages as well.
