Review: Cande Shampoo Bars

Okay, so a few weeks ago, I shared My Three Favorite Hair Products, one of them from Cande....

Today we are talking shampoo bars, but particularly
of Cande Company from Oak Harbor, Ohio.

What are these bars? Basically a crunchy shampoo alternative that
a) uses ingredients we all can pronounce (yea!) and
b) is a lot nicer to your hair.

The funny thing is that Ive been no-poo (no shampoo) since September 2013 and have still been using icky chemicals, since Ive used Baking Soda to cleanse my hair. Its taken a while to see ill effects, but now I'm really interested in new and better ways to wash my hair.

Insert
Cande Shampoo Bars and shout out to Karen who gave me 6 sample bars to try.

I'm rating the bars using the book rating system I use: 1) Repulsive 2) Not so swell 3) Fair, not bad, but there were a few small issues 4) Liked  it 5) Really, Really Amazing

This is a very harsh system, so if its easier see 3 as a "B-" and a 5 as "A+".

**The first thing I noticed, standing a foot from the mailbox before I'd opened it was that I could smell the soaps before I'd even got them out. Some of them are very light but if you are a person (or are ordering for someone) that has issues with strong scents, take that into consideration with some of them.

Lux Shampoo
(smells like Root Beer)
contains water, coconut milk saponified coconut,  olive, castor,  jojoba oils,  shea and cocoa butter, beeswax, essential oils

Cleansing 5
Conditioning 4
Lather 3
Scent 4.5
Overall Rating
4.1

Beer and Aloe

(light smell, maybe like a stereotypical plain lotion)
shampoo contains  beer, aloe, saponifed Coconut, Olive, Castor, rice bran oils,  Lard, Shea and Cocoa Butters, essential oils

Cleansing 4
Conditioning 4
Lather 3
Scent 3.5
Overall Rating
3.63

Clay Shampoo

(light smell, smells like a sweet caramel)
bar contains saponified palm kernel, olive, coconut, canola, rice bran, castor oils, shea and cocoa butter, bentonite clay, essential oils

Cleansing 4.5
Conditioning 4.5
Lather 3
Scent 4
Overall Rating
4

Rosemary Nettle

(smells like soap and herbs )

shampoo bar contains water, saponified olive, avocado, castor, sunflower oils, clay, nettle, rosemary, burdock root, honey, citric acid, essential oils

Cleansing 4
Conditioning 4
Lather 3
Scent 3
Overall Rating
3.5

Beer and Honey

(very strong smell, a bit sharp... almost banana-like)
shampoo bar contains beer, water, saponified olive, avocado, castor, sunflower oils, honey, clay, citric acid, essential oils

Cleansing 5
Conditioning 4.5
Lather 2
Scent 2.9
Overall Rating
3.6

This one gave my hair more hair fall than usual and I have no idea why. It also made my hair shine with faint red-ish highlights that I hardly ever see... I'm guessing thats in part due to both of them which are know for giving shine?

Apple Cider Vinegar

(smells like soap, a bit fainter than the Beer and Honey)
shampoo bar contains water, apple cider vinegar, saponified canola, coconut, sunflower and castor oils, cocoa butter.

Cleansing 4
Conditioning 3.5
Lather 2.5
Scent 2.5
Overall Rating
3.12

Going into this, I knew that my hair hates ACV so I'm sure for many people the overall rating woul
d be at least a point more. I also have medium- soft water so ACV is a little redundant here :) Still, I definitely want to have this on hand for traveling- you never know what tricks a hotel will pull when you are in an unknown area.

PS. My hair is typically dry (loves moisture!) and about medium coarseness. Its not too thin, but definitely tapers off to nothingness. I'm also letting my sister try the bars and her hair is really really thick, tangle easily, oily, and definitely medium coarseness. Almost opposites :)

Name: MudLOVE //// http://mudlove.com/

Tagline: MudLOVE Clay creations made to spread hope and show love. Every product you purchase provides one week of clean water to someone in need with
waterforgood.org

Or in my words, MudLOVE is a great business!

First--- The mugs are awesome!

Product Details
- Carefully handcrafted
- Provides one week of clean water to someone in need
- Microwave and dishwasher safe
- Holds about 12 ounces
- Each mug will have slight variances in size and color
- Online exclusive

I got an orange one to review "Rise and Shine" (its was hard to pick a favorite, but in the end it was between that one and "Caught in the Rain") and its great quality.... Its also absolutely beautiful.

Sean from MudLOVE surprised me with three bracelets and I love them too!

Maddy's recent guest post here, Love Yourself, Love Others, mentioned the verse that says: The three most important things to have are faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor. 13:13).

Its totally awesome that the bracelets that MudLOVE gave me also are based on this verse.

I am someone that loves the Old Testament standard of from Duet. 6 that says: These things God is telling you are important! Remember them! Talk about them all the time, so you dont forget and wear them as bracelets if that does the trick.

These MudLOVE bracelets seem totally cool to wear, and a great witnessing tool, too.

But! Besides the variously themed bracelets and mugs, they also have pendant necklaces, magnets, rocks, and tshirts! So many options!

Okay so once I added an extra to my Fiverr Healthy Hair Care Tips gig of giving all the things related to hair that I like, from my awesome Tangle Teezer brush to a waterbottle because healthy person= healthy hair.

Only recently I realized that no one cares about a watterbottle or hair brush, so I'm changing my gig to reflect these gems....

These are things that if I was stranded on an island,  I would send smoke signals for. Food, water, and these.

Because no one will argue against bad hair = a bad mood

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil (Glass Jar) Nutiva 23 oz Oil
$14

This jar has taken me a little over a year to use up and its great for my ends.

It does smell like coconuts unlike some poor-quality oils Ive used, so more nutrients for you and your hair and less icky chemicals. Win!

I love that it comes in a glass jar, too.

(You need just a little and will want to use it from the chin down.)

Cande Leave In Conditioner
$5

I recently got some shampoo bars in, and with them a little Ultimate Hair Treatment Serum and Leave In Conditioner. The Leave In is amazing!

It doesnt leave residue like most conditioners would...

and is the best thing Ive ever used for keeping my hair tangle free!

Although unlike the other two its not certified organic, these are the only in ingredients you'll find it it:
water, emulsifiers, vegetable oils, scent. No icky chemicals here either!

I really like that even using just a little, and since I keep my hair braided up a lot, it leaves me with some cool curls :)

Organic Argan Oil Hair Treatment 3.4 Fl Oz
$13
'
This jar I use more sparingly than coconut oil, but its great for detangling and preventing tangles.

Argan oil is one of the most expensive, but you dont need much!

Its really light and a great thing to have on hand for a little extra moisture.

Its also good for smoothing down frizzy hair and all that good stuff.

They want to see any trace of Henry's death disappear like yesterday's paper. So Teddy sets out to find the truth. With the help of Summer McCraken, a fiesty girl with secrets of her own, the two narrow down their prime suspects. Is it Martin Del Gato, FunJungle's head of operations who dislikes kids and hates animals even more? Or J.J McCraken, the owner of FunJungle and Summer's father, who has more concern for the dough he's raking in than the animals in the zoo? As their investigation goes on, Teddy gets squeezed on all sides to quit asking questions-- or Henry won't be the only one to turn up dead. The deeper Teddy and Summer get, the more the danger mounts -- because when it comes to hippo homicide, the truth can't be kept in a cage!
