Webites used words like eerie. Surreal.
And i put on a brave face. To a friend I had said:
The town I was talking about in TN has had millions of dollars of damage. It will take decades for the trees in the national park to grow back and the resort Facebook page says that they are closed until further notice. But they say no one is missing, no one was hurt, no one has died and that's incredible considering its Thanksgiving week and they would have had thousands of people on the campus.
Buildings can be replaced. Trees will grow back... right?
But then this morning I watched a video clip of a car which had been liquidified in a fire and the liquid-car had ran down the pavement.
And after seeing that I was a little more upset, maybe even devestating that the Westgate Resort in Gatlinburg my family has vacationed at for the past three years has been destroyed in recent wildfires in the area.
Here are some photos of what damage occurred. The large buildings were 3 or 4 story with 80 to 100 units in each. The smaller buidings (400 and 500 series) seem to be mostly gone as well.
They lost 800 units and still have 300ish in 17 different buildings. (For owners, there is a article of what remains here. )
But there are a lot of memories I had of this place and its a strange feeling to know that every scene we photopraphed would now be completely different.
