4 Unscary Religious Resources

Alright, so who likes judgmental Christians? Who likes to be uncomfortable and yelled at? Not me.

These are some great places to start if you are new to this Christian thing or just want a few new places. No yelly comments, no forcing things down your throat.

  1. Illustrated NLT Study Bible.

This is the most un-scary Bible I have found.

Lots of commentary? Yep.
Easy to read? Absolutely.
Distracting pictures? Got it covered.
Its pretty great. :)

I reviewed it here: http://majesticgoldenrose.weebly.com/blog/bible-review-nlt-illustrated-study-bible

Also you can read a sample (with Psalms, John, Romans) here of that one, minus the illustrations. I have that downloaded on mobile and maybe you would want to do something like that too?

     2. Remedy Live Chat

Remedy Live is a chat hotline for depression, suicide, eating disorders, faith, pornography, self harm, abuse, etc.

If find them useful for faith questions and when I just want to speak with an adult over a situation when I am not sure what God is trying to say or do. I have spent a lot of time chatting on the website.

To get connected:
  • go to remedylive.com and click the orange banner at the top which says Chat Now. You have to create an account, but its really handy if you have been on before for them to know your name and gender already.
  • text REMEDY to 313131, if you are in the US. Texting fees do apply. Your messages will be anonymous.

     3. Jon Jorgenson Videos
These are great too. You are welcomed to come learn things and just kinda hang out with Jon if that makes sense.

My favorite is the Daniel series but there are lots more videos, a new one every Wednesday.

I treat this as my devotional.

If you have more time, you should also check out some things that Francis Chan has put out there. Definitely difficult messages but they are good quality.

     4. This one 52 Week Bible Reading Plan

It looks like this, and I printed out a mini one (by shrinking the size of the document in printer settings) which I carry around in case I have spare time.

You dont have to read anything specific, you can skip around because there are boxes to check off.

Personally I like to read like a book at a time (Although I did Psalms in like 4 sittings and they were great)

     5. Bible Project Videos

I also like to get background/ overview from videos done by the Bible Project. They put an entire book into a few minutes and its a good balance between "in depth analysis" and "looking at the larger picture." I have downloaded a few so I dont lose them.

Theyre sort of extended abstracts for books of the Bible, if that makes any sense.
