Please dont get scared away by the long post... if you complain, I might be tempted to add more tunes

*wink*

Okay, so I might have a slight obsession with this group: Harmony Quartet:

Its AP exam week numero uno and pretty much I'm hoping these guys will make everything better :)

They only have so many songs in English (many of which Ive shared) but since they are German culturally, there are. so. many. in. German.

And they all sound so good too so I'm not going to let the language barrier stop me--- and you shouldnt either!!!

I contacted them for the German lyrics and English translation, so here we go:

Er lebt /// He lives
ER lebt, den sein Grab ist Leer, ER ist auferstanden Jesus lebt!
ER lebt und ER sagt zu mir: du sollst mit mir leben allezeit.

HE lives- because HIS grave is empty, HE is risen Jesus is alive!
HE lives- and HE says to me: you shall live with Me forever.
Hold Me Tight /// Halte mich Fest

Halte mich Fest, mit den Händen Deiner Liebe. Halte mich fest!
Deines Wortes heller Schein- halte mich fest!
Lass mich atmen Deine Güte.
Halte mich fest- dann kann ich in Dir geborgen sein.

Hold me  tight with the hands of Your love.
Hold me tight The bright shining of your Word - hold me tight!
Let me breathe your kindness.
Hold me tight, then I can be secure in you.
Howesick /// Heimweh

Fühlst du es auch? Heimweh! Heimweh!
Dann sing es laut- sing es hinaus in die Welt:
Heimweh! Heimweh!

Do you feel it too? Homesick! Homesick!
Then sing it loud- sing it out into the world:
Homesick! Homesick!
Der Clou /// The Show-Stopper*

You are wanted - not a child of chance, not a twist of nature.
No matter whether if you sing your life song in minor or major.
You are a thought of God, and even a brilliant one.
You are you- that’s the clou (special, highlight). Yes the clou. Yes, you are you!

*I found the literal translation to be: the show-stopper

The Missing Windows 8.1 Manual

5/2/2015

Welcome to Windows 8 (or is it 8.1 now, right?)

I was really happy to get a laptop, but having never used Windows 8 before was pretty lost when I took my new toy out of the box.

Here's some things that would have been nice to know, had there been a manual:

** Note, I'm not listing a lot of the "here is how to make your mouse censor trail behind you" or "here is how you change the settings to French because you think you could learn some of the language from using it" If you are looking for something like that.... well, you probably should be the one writing this post and not me.

1) There is a desktop! To get there there is a little box traditionally on the bottom left of your start screen. Also the very bottom left hand corner and, your windows key on your keyboard. Really cant miss it, its by the space key.

PS: You can load apps from the Desktop and desktop things from the Start page.

2) Start has a "Right Click" option. I dont know how to right click on touchscreen, but right click lets you see your "Run" "File Explorer" "Control Panel" etc. These are also hidden in apps.

3) There is a way to start desktop when you log in.   Right click on the desktop taskbar, navigation and properties, navigation and then you have the setting (Search it for more info, I'm moving on to save time here)

4) You can share files with your home PC with networking. I have all my stuff on the downstairs PC and was totally surprised to know that they can stay there even so I can edit them in my room. I'm not sure about more than one person in a folder at once though.

5) Transfer Passwords and Bookmarks? This one (egh, 18 hours after I got the Windows 8) I'm still a little lost on. We use Mozilla mainly so I copied all the passwords/history/etc to Chrome and then shared all that with Chrome on my laptop. Downloading the file of such got me no where and I still dont have the passwords saved.

**(()) After investigation:

6) The food and drinks app (which I havent gotten into) claims to have a hands free mode with the webcam. Sounds fun!

7) There are new shortcuts! Gotta love 'em!
Picture
8) In 8.1 tiles are multiple sizes. You can use your mouse to navigate or the mouse. You can right click, select, and move/resize etc all at once. (Depending on if organization matters to you)

9) Talking about searching, search the computer, internet, files, settings or apps from there. Pretty useful, its a little search engine right there, but dont forget about Bing. You can make money there, lol. (referral link to the left :) )

10) This is sharing: Pretend that you are in "News" and you like the article you see-- You want to share it on Mail, Twitter, etc. Click way down to the lower right hand corner so some settings pop up (called charms) and click share. From there you can select Twitter (if you have the app and are signed in) and the post you want to make. Use the little down carrot to specify if you want to share the link, a screenshot, etc.

11) You can force close by dragging an app down. You can open another app beside a first but exactly how is escaping me at the moment.... experiment

12) I dont know why you wouldnt use iPiccy ((())) but you should also remember that Photos (another app) has some sort of photoshopping options.

13) In Internet Explorer (supposedly) at the bottom, to the right of the address bar is a readability option... get rid of ads and random things on a webpage especially if you are on a tablet.

14) Down at start lets you resort all your apps to put them on start. What are these apps? These are your microphone, calculator, windows speech recognition, paint, etc that are part of your PC but never made the start menu. Put them there (on your start menu) if you use them occasionally. You can search between these on your start page-- just start typing.

15) Talking about Windows Speech Recognition, its like Siri for desktops and laptops.b(((())) So glad that 8.1 has this!

16) If you are new to having a laptop like I am, download Spider Solitare and play for an hour. It will definitely help your figure out the mouse.

17) If you are talking a video, if you click, you can simultaneously take pictures. Who knew?

Enough big words for one day, right y'all? Close this post and use it now! Seriously.

The Book of Proverbs (KJV/The Message)

Title: The Book of Proverbs KJV/ The Message
Rating: 3.5 Stars

I got this book as a review-- however I have not the slighter clue who gave it to me, which is a rather scary position to be in so I will update as appropriate.

In the meantime, a short review for a short book.

Blurb:

At the 1604 Hampton Court Conference, James I, the first king of both England and Scotland, was persuaded that a new Bible translation was needed and ordered work to begin. Little did he know that this new Bible’s influence would be felt around the world. Today, the King James Version is viewed as a cornerstone of the church, Western culture, and the development of the English language. To celebrate the KJV’s 400th anniversary and the tenth anniversary of The Message, this parallel Bible presents the book of Proverbs in both versions. Read the verses both ways to appreciate the language of James I’s court and the contemporary speech of today.

My opinions:

Its a really cool idea to have a 400 year anniversary version and I was totally interested in getting my hands on something where on each page I could read very old text and very new.

For those of you not aware, the King James Version (KJV) and The Message (MSG) have a night and day relationship.
Generally, MSG is seen a a "dumbed down" copy of other translations and the KJV is "word for word translation" from the Greek and Hebrew texts.

**There are errors in MSG Bibles and please search and circle those verses that are not right. For example you cant say that 4000 men is 4000 people because 4000 men inplies that there were at least 7000 more women and children which in the translation are totally not even counted. And I'm pretty sure that women and children are peoples too.

A (made up) verse in the KJV might read: Jesus said "Thou art a sinner. I have cometh for thou to repent so fail not to watch the hour"

The same verse in MSG might read: Jesus said "Homies, you've sure messed up this time. And that's why I'm here, got it man? I'm gonna save the day and if my guess is right, you wont even notice. And wouldnt that backfire!

For example, in Proverbs 19:3 (a legit verse) ---
KJV says: The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.
MSG says: People ruin their lives by their own stupidity, so why does God always get blamed?

It is definitely interesting to read each. I prefer the KJV because I know its the real deal but the MSG seems conversational and that can be cool too.

Here is Proverbs 22: 22-25 in both texts:

22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
23 For the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
22-23 Don’t walk on the poor just because they’re poor,
and don’t use your position to crush the weak,
Because God will come to their defense;
the life you took, he’ll take from you and give back to them.
24-25 Don’t hang out with angry people;
don’t keep company with hotheads.
Bad temper is contagious— don’t get infected.
Here we can see that the MSG gives us a little more understanding. In Bible days, the sick were cast out of the cities and begged at the city gates. The MSG gives you a good comprehension with more of a modern context.

Still, its important to say that I'm not feeling that I'll just pick this up everyday and that knocks it down a peg or two: If it was a New Testament, it would be cool to carry KJV which I would like *and* be able to share the gospel with others the Bible in the MSG...

(Ive been in multiple cases where I try to share a pretty tiny full KJV which I carry and people get really confused.)

I'm pretty sure the book of Proverbs wont do that and that leaves me wondering if this was a last minute thing thrown together (after all, all the words were already there waiting to be thrown in the book) and I'm confused why its just Proverbs.

The book of Proverbs is good if you need a pick me up, definitely, but so much of it is like the above "Be a good person" and "People are watching so please dont make a fool of who you stand for" and I feel this book would be better had it been something with Jesus front and center.

As we wait for a New Testament parallel, if you want to pick up a copy on Amazon, go right on ahead:

My 2014 Online Earnings and Stuff (w/ Linky)

This post is full of affiliate links. Seriously full, but when I have such links whether on my sidebar, a email footer, or in a post, its for your own good. Read on and you shall see.

Total money pocketed: A lot. Something like 466, but I'm not sure about my math. It could also be more like 650 too....  Do I subtract things I paid for? Do I count money I saved?

Did I pay taxes on any of it? No.

Will I come to regret that? I dont think so but....we will see.

First, I'm going to list the blog review stuff.

I think that if I was to do reviews every week, it might get to be at the $600 limit (when you have to pay taxes, because it would be a "buisness" But since I havent done one since September, that was a "help".

Yeah, ignore the yellow there. Please.

OnListia Ive earned 79456 credits, or about $80... however Ive spent 38433 credits on auctions Ive won and bought some perks too that costed me some. I have $40 in credits saved up now.

I started in January 2, 2014, and actually havent been on since July 2 but it was a great way to bet some crafty things for free (since you earn credits and all) and I might go back soon. Problem is, you sent sell online tips anymore so I'd have to gt my act together and come up with something else to sell. (Aka, since when is the postage this high???)

The searches that I keep my eye on are:
Cricut cartridges
Fabric yards (not quarters, please!!!)
Table cloths and curtains and bed linens (more fabric to play with!)
Yarn Bundles
(who would turn down five spools of yarn for $5?)

Usually I would set the starting bid at 50 or 75 cents (so I would earn at least something to cover the listing fee) but joy came when some one ordered with "Get It Now" and Id get $2 or $3 instead of 80 cents :)

I had 87 of 96 auctions end with a winner.

The problem is that you can never actually cash out and even if you *really really really* want an item, there is a chance you wont win it. Or the auction would close at 9 on Sunday morning and you would be stuck in church while someone else won.

That and you cant set yourself to "Vacation" (as you can see I was away at camp the week of June 15) or a auction to repeat itself.

I joined ChatAbout when it was just starting up. The way that site works is you get paid to comment on news articles, the forum threads, etc. You also got one cent per referral click and that was nice when I had my giveaway.

So anyway, I made only about $5 a month and when they changed it to 1000 points for only $5 I split.

But a free $30 was better than nothing :)

The image is pretty bad quality, but I dont know what to do about it......

Edit. This is as good as its gonna get.

Fiverr -- Ive earned $24 dollars on last year, and so far $4 this year (its January 21).

Ive also spent $5.5 working with a lady from Malaysia to get a second sidebar on this blog, see here. $5.50 for 6 hours of work isnt too bad on the wallet and Ive really wanted a second sidebar but was getting really stressed because I was in over my head. (But hey, expenses for the blogs sake are supposed to be noted, so this is it)

As of today, since I joined Bing, Ive earned  5991 life time credits. I have 241 available.

Basically, you earn 15 a day, sometime 30 if there is a weekend special, and maybe 1 to 3 extras for searching some things they say you should in your notifications.

About $5 a month.

The lame part is that they had this awesome rewards program where you get $5 if someone signs up with your links, up to $500 and then they keep lowering it. It was something like 2.50 for 20 people for a while and now its $1 for up to 5 people if they qualify. So the referral program (well, I never had any referrals) is going downhill fast.

PS. The referral links are ugly too.

Swagbucks I joined in maybe the spring of 2011 or '12 and almost forgot about until November 2013 when I first cashed out $5.

I earned $125 and then left in August 2014 because it was too time consuming.

See, you only were guaranteed to get like 3 cents a day and then maybe 5 or 10 more with codes that were on Facebook and sent out at random intervals: "Enter 'thisisstupid' by 9:00 Central" for 4 SwagBucks" Fortunately, I was able to sign up for email notifications, but still a waste of time to log in and enter codes like that.

What you also have to know is that I could cash out 475 Bing Rewards credits for 500 Swagbucks and 450 of those Swagbucks for a $5 Amazon Gift Card, which would take like 2 weeks to actually get a code for it, but was fun and sneaky. But when you see the Bing Codes and these, know that there is a bit of overlap. You could also use 500 SwagBucks for 500 Bing Credits, but you could only do that once.

Twice Ive talked about before ((___(((())))))  but I can plaster the image here too for kicks. Its pretty cool, you should check it out..
