What Does It Take to Reveal the True Beauty of a Hidden Gem?
Phoebe Von Bergen, the daughter of a German count, is excited to visit America for the first time while her father purchases sapphires in Helena, Montana. Little does she know, however, that her father's intentions--both for her and the gemstones--are not what she thinks.
Ian Harper, a lapidary working in Helena, finds the dignified young woman staying at the Broadwater Hotel more than a little intriguing. Yet the more he gets to know her, the more he realizes that her family story is based on a lie--a lie she has no knowledge of. And Ian believes he knows the only path that will lead her to freedom.
Meeting Ian has changed everything for Phoebe, and she begins to consider staying in America, regardless of her father's plans. But she may not be prepared for the unexpected danger that results when her family's deception begins to unravel.
"The second book in Peterson's Sapphire Brides series is a compelling page-turner. . . . With an intriguing plot juxtaposed against sapphire development and gem cutting in the American West, Peterson's latest sets the bar high when it comes to all the small yet vivid details that contribute to the richness of the story. . . . An uplifting read with a sweet romance demonstrates why Peterson is such a remarkable storyteller."--RT Book Reviews Top Pick
"This sweet story based in the wilds of Montana offers fascinating insights into the sapphire industry in the early 1900s."--CBA Retailers+Resources
This book was great.
For some reason, I didnt like the first one so much but this one made my day. Isnt the cover lovely? I happen to find this one much better than the first and the third (available for pre-order!) is one you will be proud to show off too :)
The plot is quite interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to learn some German words from the characters. I'm sure anyone who has ever studied German in school or traveled there would love the references and sweet words.
I also appreciated the male Main Character's struggle with trust. He was a widower, hurt insistently by his first wife by lies that she told him that had fatal consequences. Its always important to remember that guys are (secretly) very sensitive too and telling the truth is *always* in style. Please tell me I am not the only one who likes a little message to take away from a book too.....
Also: In most historical romance, the book is a bit cliche and predictable but not so with this one: The ending was quite unexpected! I cant say more without getting yelled at by Bethany House but wow, I was shocked!.
I look forward to reading the third book in the series and even if you didnt get the chance to pick up the first one, this one is a great book to read. I read it in two sittings and lost track of time completely. Haha. Time well spent :)
Ah well, I dont want to keep you from placing that order any longer. You can get your copy from Amazon for $8.50 here.
